Happy New Year 2018!
Some of our Primary friends build a cave using the Imagination Blocks to hibernate.
While some animals might choose to hibernate during winter, the first 7 days at Hudson Montessori School have been buzzing with activity. It may have been cold outside but it was a great opportunity for us to play in the snow and learn about the Water Cycle.
When it snows, Make Snow Angels
Toddler, Bridge
Our toddlers have come back from their break and have transitioned well into the New Year. We are so proud of how independent, caring and busy they are.
Story Time – We’re all ears.
Practical Life – Focusing on the task at hand
Primary
Our Primary Students were also happy to get back to work. As they hone in on their Language, Math, Sensorial and Practical Life skills they are also exploring the different stages of the water cycle. The snowstorm presented us with a great opportunity to explore the different State of Matter.
Language – Building words with the Movable alphabets.
New Year’s Resolution – Take time to read.
Sensorial – Grading colors.
Elementary
The cold weather did not stop our PE coach from giving our students a workout. Students meet in the Multipurpose room for PE.
Our Lower Elementary Students took a field trip to the Newark Museum. The students were given a tour of exhibits related to Ancient Civilization. As part of their year-long study, the students are exploring the Chinese and Roman civilization and their contributions to the Industrial Revolution.
Our Upper Elementary Students are busy preparing for the Montessori Model UN conference in March. Last year our 8 delegates had an enriching experience as they represented the country of Somalia. This year we have 21 delegates representing the Republic of Myanmar, Benin, and Slovenia. Some of the topics they will discuss include, Eradication of Poverty, Financing of Peacekeeping, Diplomatic Protection, Strengthening of Security and Cooperation in the Mediterranean Region, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, Rights of Indigenous People etc.
Coming Up …
This Saturday is Bring Your Parent to School Day where students will become their parents’ teachers. This is a great opportunity for parents to get a first-hand experience of their child’s day. The Hudson Montessori Parent Volunteers are also organizing the Pancake Breakfast which is a great opportunity for our families to meet.
We are excited to be the first school in Jersey City to host a School Maker Faire. Our last year’s Maker Mart just got official. In a School Maker Faire, the exhibitors, or “Makers,” are primarily students. Our students are excited to showcase some of the projects they have been working on. The Faire will also host STEAM vendors from our community who will set up activities for the students to try out. The Faire will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 10 am – 2 pm and is open to the public.
