Hudson Montessori School welcomed all parents, children, extended family, and caregivers to their spectacular Three-in-One January Event: the Pancake Breakfast, Bring Your Parents to School Day, and their super impressive Maker Faire.
HMS Annual School Maker Faire
Thank you to all who came to our Annual School Maker Faire!
Hudson Montessori School is proud to present the only elementary school Maker Faire (branded under the Worldwide Maker Faire Banner) event in the region! Our school’s STEAM program is so impressive and robust that MAKE Magazine, the founder of Maker Faire has allowed us to use the Maker Faire brand to represent the next generation of creators, inventors, and thinkers. Our HMS families and friends from Toddler, Bridge, Primary, and Elementary came to visit the Maker Faire hosted by Hudson Montessori’s Elementary Students on January 20, 2020. It was a dazzling array of exhibits including Art and Upcycled Crafts; Game designs that include board games and computer games; and Bots and Bytes such as Coding projects and robots! A special thanks to our local Maker friends for stopping in! Zaniac, Luna de Papel, Andy’s Tech Garage, and Code Whiz Jersey City was on hand with intriguing and fun demonstrations!

Video recap of 2020 HMS School Maker Faire
Pancake Breakfast and Bring your Parents to School Day
Toddler, Bridge Primary and Primary were invited to Bring Your Parents to School Day with your child. Primary children became the teachers as they demonstrated a 45-minute work period for their parents. The children prepared a work plan and guide for their mom and dad, taking them through their “class.”
Our HMS families enjoyed fresh-flipped blueberry, chocolate chip, or rainbow pancakes compliments of our parent volunteer chefs along with a side of fresh fruit. The students prepared the cake batter for the event the evening before. Special thanks to HMV for volunteering your time and energy to make this event a success!
Martin Luther King Jr.
Lower elementary students began a read-aloud, “Who Was Martin Luther King, Jr,” in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day last January 20. Students discussed peace and equality.
“Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t need to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.” -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Chinese New Year
Gong hei fat choi! Hudson Montessori students celebrated Chinese New Year with in-class presentations from our Primary parents and a trip to NJPAC to watch Nai Nai Chen!
What is Chinese New Year?
This year, Chinese New Year begins on Saturday, Jan. 25. Officially, the holiday runs for three days, but unofficially it is celebrated over the course of two weeks. Chinese New Year follows the lunar calendar, so the exact dates change every year, but it usually occurs in late January or February, around the new moon closest to the beginning of spring. It is the year of the rat!
Spelling Bee Winners!
Congratulations to our Upper Elementary student, Anirudh Rajasekar, for winning our school spelling bee! He will be representing Hudson Montessori School and competing at the upcoming Hudson County Spelling Bee on February 29, 2020.
